Born in 1945 Carinthia/Austria.
1963-1969 Studies of Classical Philology and Classical Archeology at the Universities of Vienna and Munich (Germany).
Since 1970 Excavations and archeological research at Ephesos and Carnuntum/Pannonia Superior.
1969-1985 Universitary career in Vienna, teaching at universities of Vienna, Graz and Salzburg.
1974 Member of the German Archeological Institute.
1980-1982 Research and conservation of the ancient mosaics of Erythrai (Īldırı/Turkey).
1983-1997 Head of the cooperation project (Austria – Turkey) on the research and conservation of the mosaic pavement of the Great Palace of Constantinople/Istanbul.
1985 Prof. for Classical Archeology at University of Vienna.
Head of the archeological research at the office of the government of Lower Austria and leader of the regional project “Archeological Parc Carnuntum”.
1990 Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
2000 Member of the executive board of the International Association for the Study of Ancient Mosaic (Association International pour l’Etude de la Mosaique Antique - AIEMA, Paris).
2003 Ord. Prof. for Classical Archeology at University of Trnava (SK). Collaboration with Selçuk University in Konya and Uludağ University in Bursa, promoting the establishment of the AIEMA branch in Turkey (AIEMATurkey) and of the Mosaic Research Center in Bursa.

Focus
Archeological research in Turkey and permanent member of the Austrian excavation staff in Ephesos (since 1970), specializing in mosaic studies. Extended publications on the mosaic production of Asia Minor (Ephesos, Erythrai and Constatinopel/Istanbul), Noricum and Pannonia. Excavations on various places in Turkey with focal points at Ephesos, Erythrai and Istanbul.
Permanent archeological studies, excavations and conservations at Magdalensberg, in Carnuntum (since 1970), Lauriacum and Iuvavum.
