UCSB Students at the St. John Basilica, 2007

Crisler Library at Ephesos is expanding its Study Abroad program and would like to invite you to bring your students to Ephesus.

With the resources of the library, a unique and well-learned faculty and a friendly home base for students, CLE provides the kind of study abroad experience students seek, parents feel comfortable with, and faculty can plan robust programs around.

Not only will students benefit from the library and its very close proximity to Ephesos, but also they will have the opportunity to visit key historical sites in the surrounding region, such as Pergamon, Miletos, Priene as well as Patmos and many others.

In the summer of 2007 CLE welcomed Dr. Christine Thomas and her students from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the program was met with great success.  Students learned at the library and at nearby sites, and became immersed in the Turkish community by staying in local hotels and pensiones.  The format for this program was as follows:

  • Morning lectures in the Muharrem Conference Hall for 1.5 hours
  • Coffee Break in the Roman Peristyle Courtyard
  • 1/2 hour Question and Answer period
  • Afternoon visits to the ancient site of Ephesos for further explanations

Please view the subpages for information about members of the faculty, as well as descriptions of their lectures.
