Crisler Library at Ephesos was founded to promote scholarship, research and education in order to foster a deeper understanding of the ancient history of Asia Minor by providing a library in Ephesus, Turkey.

American Non-Profit: Crisler Library at Ephesos, Ltd., an American 501(c) (3) organization, was founded by Janet V. Crisler in 1999 to honor her late husband, B. Cobbey Crisler through archaeology and manuscript preservation in the Near East.

Location: In 2006 Crisler Library at Ephesos (CLE) facility was opened in Selcuk, Izmir, Turkey. Selcuk is located in western Turkey near Ephesos, one of the most important Hellenistic and Roman sites in the world. The Library is minutes from ancient Ephesos and the Ephesos Museum. CLE building is at the foot of Ayasuluk Hill within view of the basilica of St. John, near Isa Bey Mosque, and the ruins of the Artemision, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Affiliations:  CLE has neither religious nor political affiliations. 

Executive Board of Trustees: An American board of trustees, with Janet V. Crisler as founder and president, governs CLE and meets monthly by conference call.

Advisory Board: Supports the executive board with its expertise and membership includes Turks and other individuals with first-hand business experience in Turkey.

Features of Crisler Library: The Library was completed in 2006. It is climate controlled and includes wireless service.

Muharrem Kayhan Conference Room: Has seating for up to 30, audio/visual equipment and podium.

Cynthia Martin McBride Study Hall: Is equipped with desks, four computers, and a plasma television that can be used for closed circuit viewing of events in the Conference Room.

Landscaped Courtyard: Can be used as meeting or event space, accommodates 40 at tables and up to 100 for a reception.  

Reference Library: Equipped with three computers, has a growing collection of books on archaeology, history and other volumes necessary to the study of Ephesos with an early Roman reference. The books are in English, German, Turkish and French. The trustees and advisors are committed to acquiring the most definitive collection on this subject. The Elizabeth Hay Bechtel Manuscript Preservation Hall: Is dedicated to the preservation and translation of ancient manuscripts.

One Faculty Bedroom where professors on sabbatical may stay while they pursue research projects in the Reference Library.

Kitapevi / Bookstore: Has textbooks on Turkey, archaeology and history.
