Crisler Library Purpose

To promote scholarship, research and education in order to foster a deeper understanding of the ancient history of Asia Minor by providing a Library in Ephesus, Turkey.

Crisler Library Programs

1. Serve as a Branch Campus for Universities and academic institutions in which faculty and students can be based in Ephesus and centrally located to explore the many historical sites surrounding the Library.

2. Provide a Research Library for Archaeology with a First Century Early Roman reference focus; a Conference Hall for lectures; a Manuscript Hall dedicated to manuscript preservation and study.

3. Collaborate with the Austrian Institute of Archaeology of Vienna towards a shared goal to fulfill B. Cobbey Crisler’s decades long search for the early Roman city in Ephesos.  After three years of scientific surveys, spades were put into the ground during the 2007 season.
